To the country's artistic multi-taskers, Hinemoana Baker is exemplary. With the release of not only her debut album, 'Puawai', but also her first book of poetry, 'matuhi / needle', baker also hosts National Radio's celebration of Maori musicians, Waiata. Both her music and poetry explore the convergence of her Maori and Pakeha ancestries. A product of Bill Manhire's MA course in creative writing, Hinemoana Baker's first publication was sponsored in part by a run-in with one of the core cast of Lord of the Rings. Hear Hinemoana Baker's story in Musical Chairs today at (TIME) today on National Radio.
