Run by the College Music Journal organisation, the CMJ music marathon and conference is a festival for indie, alternative and hip hop bands to shop their wares. Around 1200 bands attended the 2010 festival held in New York City during the last week of October. Among them, ten Kiwi bands were trying to get noticed: Lawrence Arabia, Zowie, Street Chant, The Family Cactus, Battle Circus, 1995, Cairo Knife Fight, Electric Wire Hustle, Ruby Frost, and Kids of 88. Gemma Gracewood followed their progress.
