The Taite Music awards took place at Q theatre on the 18th of April.
Em Walker, aka Te Kaahu won the Taite Music prize for 'Best Independent Debut' for her album - Te Kaahu O Rangi.
The album contains nine waiata sung in entirely in te reo Maori with themes of of love, peace, healing, and hope, and the album is a tribute to tupuna wahine and her beloved home in the Waikato.
Charlotte Ryan spoke to Te Kaahu about the win.
