The Mixtape: Tayi Tibble

From Music 101, 4:00 pm on 24 July 2021

Tayi Tibble (Te Whānau ā Apanui/Ngāti PorouTe Whānau ā Apanui/Ngāti Porou) is an award winning poet based in Pōneke.

Tayi’s poetry speaks on beauty, pop culture, colonisation, ahurea tuakiri, sex, self-image, and Māoritanga.

Her first book, Poūkahangatus, won the Jessie Mackay Best First Book of Poetry Award in 2019, and her second book, Rangikura, is out now.

"As well as displaying her trademark “fiery”, incendiary and politically aware qualities, Rangikura also reveals pain and vulnerability, and some sections of the book moved me not to awe or even anger, but to tears. To read Rangikura is to marvel at Tibble’s immense skill with words and cry for all that we still have to carry.' —Kiri Piahana-Wong, Kete Books

Tayi joined Charlotte to discuss fashion, poetry, and Porirua- as well as select her favourite songs on this episode of The Mixtape.
