In the aftermath of the pandemic's negative impact on Aotearoa’s local music industry, The Music Commission established the NZ Music Venue Infrastructure Fund for music venues with a capacity of under 1000.

The fund supported music venues with a contribution towards costs associated with operating a live music venue, in order to assist in ensuring viable touring circuits for original NZ music.

85 venues were offered support across 26 towns and cities in Aotearoa. One of those venues was Wunderbar in Lyttleton, known as “the weirdest coolest little bar in NZ”

Charlotte Speaks to bar owner Alex Wallace about why he wanted to own a music venue, what makes it special and why it’s so important for him to put on good hospitality for the bands that he hosts.
