In The History of Sailing Away singers Dave Dobbyn and Hammond Gamble recall the recording of the country’s arguably most successful sports anthem.  Joining them are KZ7 crew and some the talent behind ‘Sailing Away’ to take us back to 1986.

Yadana Saw gets behind the curious tale of the song that was the longest consecutive Number One single until 2009. 

1:15 INTERVIEW: Golden Globe-winning musician and composer Jon Batiste 

Musician John Batiste has a long list of achievements. He’s performed with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Prince, Willy Nelson, Ed Sheeran, and Lenny Kravitz, He regularly tours with his band Stay Human, who appear nightly on The Late Show With Steven Colbert. John also serves as the creative director of the National Jazz Museum in Harlem, Music Director of The Atlantic, and recently took home the Golden Globe for Best Original Score for his work as a composer on Pixar’s latest animated adventure Soul.

3:00  INTRODUCING: Aro 

Aro is husband and wife duo Charles and Emily Looker. They met while both studying a Bachelor of Music at the University of Auckland, where they discovered they share a passion for the power of language and music to tell stories and remind us of our cultural identity. In 2019 they were a Silver Scrolls finalist and last year a finalist for the APRA Best Children's Song Award.

Their new single Baby Beat was inspired by their yet to be born baby's heartbeat. Their first scan was during the Auckland Level 3 lockdown, so Emily had to go on her own and came home with a recording of their baby's heartbeat. It was this that inspired the song – all about anticipating meeting their baby (who came early and is already here!)
