Amy
The life and times of the late, great soul singer, Amy Winehouse, have been presented by filmmaker Asif Kapadia in his new production, Amy, a documentary built out of a patchwork of home video, interview material and paparazzi footage. Ahead of the film's screenings at the NZIFF, Kapadia talks to Sam Wicks about how he chose to document the North London native’s rise and demise.

Gin Wigmore in Session
For her third LP, Blood to Bone, Gin Wigmore took over Blakeslee Recording Studios in North Hollywood for what would be a 13-day studio stint, returning with 10 cuts. As a stripped-back presentation of a selection of those songs, Gin Wigmore and band join Emma Smith in the Music 101 studio for an acoustic session and catch-up.

Savage
Proud South Auckland son, Demetrius Savelio – Savage – is currently riding a third wave of his rap career, after a Joel Fletcher-produced EDM remix of his 2005 single ‘Swing’ went triple platinum in Australia. Now signed to dance music colossus Ministry of Sound, Savage tells Sam Wicks how rolling with the punches – and different tempos – has allowed him to stay in the game.

The Secret Life of  Aotearoa Juggalos
Detroit shock rap duo Insane Clown Posse have been painting their faces and rapping for over 25 years now, and have amassed a deeply loyal cult of followers. Known as Juggalos, they number in the tens of thousands and span the globe, often painting their own faces in tribute. Sophie Wilson and Tony Stamp track down some of Aotearoa’s very own Juggalos to find out what it is about ICP that inspires such devotion.

The Musical Forest
Head down to Wellington’s Capital E and you’ll find The Musical Forest, an interactive installation of cardboard, electronics, rope and a disco ball that is enthralling children of all ages and musical ability. Yadana Saw visits during peak school holiday hours to meet the artists, organisers and pint-sized punters checking out this acoustic wonderland, which is proving a hit with the under-age crowd.
