A Whangarei hapu, Patuharakeke, is seeking an urgent hearing in the Waitangi Tribunal to stop the sale of ancestral lands owned by Mighty River Power. The Independent Maori Statutory Board is slamming the Auckland Council for spending only a fraction of the money it has set aside for Maori initiatives. A specialist researcher into gout is warning the disease has reached epidemic proportions in New Zealand with Maori being worst affected. More money is being injected into funding treaty claimants as the government pushes on with its goal to settle all claims with willing iwi over the next year.
