Whanganui iwi says talks with the Crown over the future of the Whanganui River have been productive, frank and open; A Ngai Tahu scheme set up to bring new blood into Bluff's fishing industry, now has 10 fishers onboard; A three hundred page book 'The French Place in the Bay of Islands', which sheds new light on Maori-Pakeha relations in Northland at the time the Treaty of Waitangi was signed, has just been launched; The Maori Language Commission has received 214 funding applications this year from groups and individuals wanting to develop community-based Maori language projects.
