Twenty seven asylum seekers have died in boat smash

The death toll now stands at 27 after a boat full of asylum seekers trying to reach Australia crashed onto rocks on Christmas Island. The boat splintered and sank and many of its passengers were dashed against the rocks, others were swept out to sea.
