Opposition rails against water privitisation

Parliament has voted for the first reading of legislation allowing councils to contract out water services to private companies for up to 35 years. Labour and the Greens say it will leave local communities without any say in how water services are run, and lay the groundwork for privatisation. Local Government Minister Rodney Hide says contracting out services is very different from water privatisation.
