UK and US call out China over cyber-attacks

From Morning Report, 6:45 am on 26 March 2024

The UK and US have called out China over what they say have been state sponsored cyber-attacks.

The United Kingdom has accused China of hacking its electoral commission, and targeting some of its MPs.

And the United States has charged seven Chinese nationals with conspiracy to commit computer intrusions, and conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

The US has also imposed sanctions on a company it says was a front for the Chinese Ministry of State Security.

The U.S. Treasury Department says APT31 is a collection of Chinese intelligence officers who carry out cyberespionage campaigns on behalf of the state.
