The fire raging on Christchurch's Port Hills has spread south into the Selwyn District Council area.
It, along with Christchurch City, declared a state of local emergency yesterday to help co-ordinate the response, and to give officials the power to evacuate people or restrict access to affected areas.
An evacuation centre has been set up at the Lincoln Community Centre.
Selwyn's mayor Sam Broughton spoke to Corin Dann.
