The Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown says the raw sewage being pumped into the Waitematā Harbour is a result of many years of neglect.
It will take an estimated ten days to fix the broken sewer pipe at the bottom of the 13 meter-deep sinkhole in Parnell.
Mayor Brown says his city's ageing infrastructure was being exposed.
Brown was unavailable to speak to Morning Report.
