Dunedin's Deputy Mayor Sophie Barker has resigned, citing an untenable working relationship with the Mayor Jules Radich.
It comes after a complaint against Strath Taieri Community Board chair, Barry Williams, following his racist outburst at a woman working at a local hotel.
The council invited Barry Williams to consider resigning, but speaking to RNZ the mayor called the incident minor and expressed his continued confidence in Williams.
Dunedin reporter Tess Brunton spoke to Corin Dann.
