A group of Canterbury students and the National Kiwi Hatchery in Rotorua have joined forces to develop a new tool that discourages dogs from attacking and killing our national bird.
"Robo Kiwi" is designed to deter uncontrolled dogs, which are a major threat to adult kiwi, causing 70 percent of deaths in the wild.
Rob Whitton from the Government research institute Scion spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.
