Secondary teachers have secured a big win after a tough campaign for better pay.

The government has offered a 14.5 percent pay rise over two years.

Education Minister Jan Tinetti says beginning teachers will get nearly $10,000 a year more on top of a $7210 lump sum payment.

Chris Abercrombie, acting president of the Post Primary Teacher's Association, says he's pleased with the deal and it's now up to members to ratify it.

He spoke to Corin Dann.
