Cash-strapped Waikato University has paid nearly $1 million to an advisory firm run by former National Party Cabinet Minister Steven Joyce.
The university says Mr Joyce's experience in business and marketing has made a big contribution to the university, but the Tertiary Education Union says it is appalled at the expenditure, given the tough financial times faced by the entire tertiary sector.
