Fire safety staff denied stabproof vests for risky inspections

The head of a Rotorua security firm says fire safety inspectors faced with having to go into risky motels were right to ask for stabproof vests.

They did not get them, and consequently no Bay of Plenty emergency housing motels have had their fire evacuation and alarms checked for almost a year

Brett Wilson told RNZ reporter Phil Pennington that after a series of assaults at a motel called Four Canoes last July, the worried inspectors came to him.
