The first active search for Madeleine McCann in almost a decade is underway in a reservoir in Portugal.
Police investigating the disappearance of Madeleine 16 years ago are searching the Arade dam, 50 kilometres from where the three-year-old went missing while on holiday in Praia da Luz in 2007.
The search has been requested by German police, as the area was visited by suspect Christian Brueckner, at the time when Madeleine disappeared.
Brueckner is currently serving a seven-year sentence for raping a woman in the same area that the toddler went missing while asleep in her bed.
