Hawke's Bay families on either side of the Waikare Gorge are able to drive for a catch up, for the first time in three months.
State Highway 2 between Napier and Wairoa opened to traffic at 7am on Sunday morning, with multiple areas of speed restrictions and stop-go traffic, after it was damaged by Cyclone Gabrielle.
RNZ reporter Kate Green drove up from Napier to Wairoa via the newly repaired highway.
