Fury with Ruapehu ski field decision

From Morning Report, 7:28 am on 12 May 2023

A group bidding for one of the Ruapehu ski-fields is furious they have not been picked as a favourite by MBIE.

Ruapehu Alpine Lifts, which ran the Whakapapa and Tūroa ski fields, went into voluntary administration in October, owing millions of dollars.

Four bidders have been vying for the contracts to take control of the ski fields.

The government says four bids are still being considered. But RNZ understands two operators are favoured by MBIE, Pure Turoa Ltd, and a private equity firm linked to businessmen Tom Elworthy and Dave Mazey.
