The announcement of Auckland Council's $325 million deficit has once again inflamed debate on whether to retain or sell the city's significant share holding in Auckland airport.
The Council is also facing $50 million in storm-related costs.
Auckland mayor Wayne Brown says without cuts or asset sales, residents would face a massive rates hike of 22.5 percent while some councillors say its scaremongering to justify the sale.
