Plan to replace all 17,000 faulty Wellington street lamps

From Morning Report, 7:41 am on 13 April 2023

A new piece of advice for Wellingtonians - keep an eye out for drooping street lights, and if you see one, report it.

Wellington's Mayor Tory Whanau is promising it'll be fixed within two hours, weather permitting.

The city has 17,000 faulty street lamps, with 17 coming down over the past four years.

Facing such a safety risk, the council - at a $6 million cost - will replace every one of the lights.

Council chief infrastructure officer Siobhan Procter spoke to Corin Dann.
