About 50,000 teachers are walking off the job today, asking for more resources to do their jobs, and pay-rises that keep pace with inflation.
The combined strike includes teachers from kindergarten through to secondary schools.
In Invercargill, PPTA Southland chair and local chemistry teacher Bill Claridge spoke to Corin Dann from picketing outside the local Labour office, and Whakatane's Tāneatua School principal Mārama Stewart joined the call from near the Hub shopping centre.
