Gisborne businesses are battling water shortages to keep their doors open, with some forced to cart in thousands of litres from home tanks.
Many have been closed until Tuesday, when the Council eased restrictions slightly for restaurants and cafes - now some have trailers parked outside with 1000-litre drums, others are using buckets.
There's no sign of a better fix while broken pipes are repaired - Tai Rāwhiti Civil Defence says extreme rationing will be in force for at least another week.
