Political leaders converge on Rātana Pā

From Morning Report, 7:14 am on 25 January 2023

Chris Hipkins will be sworn in as Prime Minister this morning, formally completing the handover of power from Jacinda Ardern.

Ardern will head to Government House to officially tender her resignation and shift to the back benches.

At about 11.30, Mr Hipkins and his deputy, Carmel Sepuloni, will arrive for a swearing-in ceremony.

Adern's last official duities were yesterday at Rātana Pā.

The leaders of all parties except ACT were at the small settlement near Whanganui yesterday, marking the return of the annual festivities - and the start of the political year.
