It's a big week for Chris Hipkins who was selected by the Labour Party caucus yesterday to be the next Prime Minister of New Zealand.
The 44-year-old Remutaka MP will be sworn in this Wedenesday as New Zealand's 41st Prime Minister.
Here he is speaking yesterday afternoon.
Hipkins was born and raised in the Hutt Valley and has represented the people of Upper Hutt since 2008.
Hipkins says his promotion to Prime Minister is momentous.
While shying away from any policy announcements in his first press conference, Chris Hipkins did signal a change in focus for the Labour Party as it heads into election year.
Carmel Sepuloni comes in as his deputy, replacing Grant Robertson and becoming the country's first Deputy Prime Mister of Pasifika descent.
Hipkins said he knew when he decided to go for the Prime Minister's job, that he wanted Sepuloni as his deputy.
