Pharmac is launching consultation today on a proposal to fund treatment for spinal muscular atrophy.
The drug is called risdiplam, which is taken orally once a day, and is said to significantly improve the lives of young people with the disease.
Pharmac says it has already received clinical advice to fund it from internal committees.
The agency's director of operations Lisa Williams spoke to Jimmy Ellingham.
