An open letter signed by around 250 local academics offering solidarity with protesters in Iran will today be sent to Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
The organisers say it's past time for educators in New Zealand to offer support for their overseas counterparts because it's teachers, students and university academics who have borne the brunt of the Iran government's attempts to crack down on demonstrators.
AUT senior law lecturer Dr Lida Ayoubi is one of the Auckland organisers.
She spoke to Guyon Espiner.
