The choice of host country has been controversial, with criticism over everything from migrant workers' rights, to attitudes towards homosexuality in strictly Muslim Qatar, to the treatment of fans.
FIFA's president Gianni Infantino added fuel to the fire yesterday with an hour long speech at the opening of the tournament.
