Christchurch stabbing at park popular with dog walkers

The investigation into the brutal stabbing of a dog-walker in Bexley is continuing with police ramping up patrols around the park in Christchurch where the assault took place.

The man was repeatedly stabbed during an early-morning attack yesterday and police say they are still trying to piece together what happened.

Detective Inspector Nicola Reeves says the man left home just before 5 in the morning and about an hour later his the family dog returned home alone.

Police want to hear from anyone in the area around the time of the attack.

Reeves is describing the attack as unexplained.

The park is a popular fixture with dog-walkers, including Christchurch City Councillor Yani Johanson.
