The dean of the Taranaki Cathedral is making no apology for the contemporary Māori design of the new Te Whare Hononga recently revealed at its historic New Plymouth site.
The whare, which has been criticised for its modern look, sits between St Mary's - a gothic-style stone church built in 1846 - and the freshly restored colonial-era vicarage.
