Inflation numbers released by Stats NZ on Tuesday could have a big impact on homeowners next year, with the Official Cash Rate now expected to rise above 5 percent.
Loanmarket director Bruce Patten says about forty percent of homeowners have mortgages with interest rates of between two and four percent set to expire.
When they renew, their rates could more than double.
Patten spoke to Guyon Espiner.
