The Finance Minister says the government will continue to support people on low and middle incomes in the face of cost of living pressures.
Consumer prices increased 2.2 percent in the September quarter, driven by higher food and housing costs.
Annual inflation dropped marginally, to 7.2 percent.
Minister Grant Robertson told Morning Report it remains a tough time for people.
He says benefits and super payments will be increased - but possibly not by as much as the rate of inflation.
