The industry association for dog breeders says demand for puppies is still high despite many going unsold online.
Backyard breeding exploded in popularity throughout the pandemic, with prices reaching up to $8000 a puppy.
But Dogs New Zealand is concerned people could be breeding dogs that don't end up with a home.
The association's director Steven Thompson spoke to Kim Hill.
