Jacinda Ardern and Judith Collins share special messages for Susie Ferguson on her last day

From Morning Report, 8:53 am on 7 October 2022

Morning Report presenter Susie Ferguson marked her last day in her role on Friday.

Ferguson started in 2014 alongside Guyon Espiner and will be moving on to a new role with RNZ.

During the eight years in the role, she presented from Gallipoli, hosted memorial, and special events, came into the studio in the middle of the night after earthquakes and managed to hold the odd giggle in.

Politicians and leaders featured heavily in her time in the show, and Morning Report asked some of them if they had a goodbye message for Ferguson.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern pointed out the sheer number of early mornings Ferguson would have endured working for a show that starts at 6am

"Working with Morning Report since 2014, that represents a lot of early mornings, and it also represents a lot of really robust conversations with politicians," Ardern said.

"I just wanted to say thank you. You've always been someone who has brought such great integrity to your role, always focused on the listener, focused on getting the best possible information, and a bit of robust back and forth out of politicians.

"Good luck for your next project, it's been a real pleasure chatting with you."

Morning Report offered National Party leader Christopher Luxon the chance to send a message, but he passed on the opportunity.

However, his predecessor Leader Judith Collins did have something to say.

"Congratulations on finishing up your time with Morning Report on Radio New Zealand.

"First off, I don't think I really enjoyed our interviews on Wednesday mornings, mainly because they were about four in a list of about nine that I had to do within two hours first thing on Wednesday morning.

"On occasion, I just wished that you would let me finish everything I wanted to say, and not interrupt with those pesky little questions. But anyway, Susie, good luck to you and thank you for your contribution to my mornings."
