Renters United on details asked of prospective tenants

Young flat hunters are being asked to hand over intrusive and unnecessary private details in order to secure a place to live.

A Consumer New Zealand investigation has found that some property agencies are breaking privacy laws by asking potential renters for very personal information.

This morning the watchdog's Chief Executive Jon Duffy told us some property managers are asking prospective tenants to even show their bank statements.
