Marlborough moving to clean-up after flooding

From Morning Report, 8:09 am on 22 August 2022

Marlborough is now moving into 'recovery mode' after days of intense rain - but its mayor warns it'll take years to repair all the damage.

A state of emergency remains in place in both Nelson and Marlborough, as crews scramble to fix immediate issues.

A large number of local roads are still closed because of slips, and long stretches of State Highways 6 and 63 remain shut.

Some of the region's north-western areas, such as Rai Valley, were inundated by up to 1000 millimetres, that's one metre, of rain in just four days.

Marlborough Mayor John Leggett spoke to Susie Ferguson.
