Ardern adamant there was no predetermination on Sharma's future before caucus meeting

From Morning Report, 7:09 am on 22 August 2022

Jacinda Ardern is adamant there was no predetermination on Labour MP Gaurav Sharma's future.

The Prime Minister says the final decision on the Hamilton West MP will be made by caucus tomorrow.

He has claimed an earlier meeting to suspend him was predetermined.

Ardern, and other Labour MPs, have denied that.

She says they have tried to keep the door open to allow Dr Sharma to rebuild trust with his colleagues.

Prime Minister visiting Nelson to see flood damage

The Prime Minister says the stories of the nearly 500 evacuees in Nelson are devastating.

She says there is additional anxiety about returning home due to repeat nature of such events.

Speaking to Morning Report from the coordination centre, Ardern says she's waiting to find out how many people were uninsured.

Anyone who chose to evacuate as a precaution is being asked to contact authorities.
