Temporary accomodation coming for flood-affected Westport families

From Morning Report, 6:47 am on 29 July 2022

Two-hundred-and-sixty-seven families in Westport moved into temporary housing last year, after their homes were deemed uninhabitable due to flood damage.

Buller mayor Jamie Cleine says of those, about 27 families are still without their own homes.

Help is on its way - construction of relief homes has begun, with the first houses expected to be delivered next month, Housing Minister Dr Megan Woods says.

Buller District Council has been granted land-use consent for the $17.08 million Temporary Accommodation Village to go ahead.

Cleine spoke to Susie Ferguson.
