From Morning Report, 7:39 am on 26 July 2022

Pope Francis apologised for the Catholic Church's role in decades of abuse of indigenous children in Canada this morning.

Indigenous leaders have long called for a papal apology for the physical, sexual and emotional harm inflicted on thousands of indigenous people.

The Pope has underlined this apology is just the first step in righting these wrongs.

Canadian correspondent Craig McCulloch has been following the papal visit.
