Some Nelson homeowners will face a shock when their next rates bill arrives this week as it could be significantly higher than expected.
Many were told the hike was likely to only be in the single digits, but now about 2000 ratepayers have been warned to expect a jump of more than 15%.
For some the increase alone will be more than $1000 - and comes as inflation reaches its highest point in three decades.
