NASA has lost contact with the satellite, the CAPSTONE, which was launched aboard a Rocket Lab rocket from Mahia Peninsula on the 28 June.
Rocket Lab lifted Capstone into a high Earth orbit, before it was successfully released on Tuesday night setting the microwave sized satellite on its path to the Moon.
At that point, New Zealand's Rocket Lab handed over control of the satellite to US private operators Advanced Space and Terran Orbital.
NASA has this morning confirmed it had lost contact and the team is working to return communications.
