The biggest change in healthcare in a generation starts today.
The country's 20 district health boards which have run hospitals and services since 2001 are out.
They are being replaced by Health NZ - to be called Te Whatu Ora - a central agency aimed at streamlining the system so you get the same level of care whether you live in Greymouth or Grey Lynn.
And the Māori Health Authority is to be called Te Aka Whai Ora
RNZ's Health Correspondent Rowan Quinn reports.
