Grieving families want harsher sentence for driver of killer crash

From Morning Report, 7:22 am on 30 June 2022

The young Timaru driver who killed five teenage boys when he crashed into a power pole last year is starting a two and half year prison sentence the grieving families say is not enough.

Tyreese Stuart Fleming, who was 19 at the time, had just got restricted licence and had been drinking when he got behind the wheel of the overloaded car with one of the boys in the boot.

He was the only one who survived.
