The Government has released its preferred option to Get Wellington Moving.
It includes light rail from the city centre through Newtown and Island Bay to the south coast.
The plan is part of the partnership between the Government, Wellington city and regional councils, and Waka Kotahi.
The programme has been beset by problems, delays and little in the way of concrete action so far.
