Helping young people get drivers license essential

A woman whose son was killed by a driver on a restricted licence says adults must take the law more seriously to save young people from themselves. Police last year caught 5,000 drivers breaking their restricted licence conditions by carrying passengers - but they prosecuted just one of them. A Ministry of Transport study questions whether a stricter licencing system would protect young drivers better. Youth Inspire is a group working with rangatahi in Lower Hutt to get their drivers licenses, as well as employment and education. Its General Manager, Ali Black, spoke to Susie Ferguson.
