Pacific Islands Forum rift mended in Suva

From Morning Report, 6:50 am on 8 June 2022

In a watershed moment, leaders of the Pacific Islands Forum have agreed on a way to prevent Micronesian countries from breaking up the regional body.

The row came to a head in February last year over the selection of a candidate for the Forum's top job.

Micronesia was annoyed its candidate Gerald Zackios was overlooked in favour of the former Cook Islands prime minister Henry Puna.

A high level meeting was held in Fiji yesterday.
