Principals and teachers warn children's behaviour and achievement is worse because of the pandemic.
They say some young people have gaps in their learning and some have missed basic routines and socialising that help them get along with one another and with their teachers.
The situation is worst in Auckland, where schools have lost more time to lockdowns in the past two years.
